AFRICA: Anti-LRA moves may not be a US military trend

SIGNIFICANCE : Late last year, 100 US special forces advisers were deployed to help regional militaries hunt for Joseph Kony's LRA. In May, the US Army Special Operations Command in Africa (SOCAFRICA) confirmed that US forces have moved beyond Entebbe (Uganda) to establish various forward operating bases ('Combined Operations Fusion Centres') in areas of LRA activity: the borderlands of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Central African Republic (CAR) and South Sudan. SOCAFRICA states that the LRA has been reduced to 'survival mode' only. Apart from its significance to regional security, the question arises whether joint anti-LRA operations herald a new model or precedent of US military engagement in Africa generall?
