Louisville declares Friday 'Ford Motor Company' day in honor of centennial

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) ? The Ford Motor Company hit a major milestone in the city of Louisville.

The auto giant marked 100 years in the city with a special celebration and proclamation in their honor.

Mayor Greg Fischer, Metro Government, and former mayor and Lt. Governor Jerry Abramson gathered to declare Friday Ford Motor Company day.

The company began its Louisville operation in 1913 with just 17 employees making model T?s on assembly lines.

Currently, the manufacturer employs 8500 workers at two local plants building Escapes, Expeditions, and other vehicles.
