?Game of Thrones? casts ?Rome? vet for Season 4

With the casting of Rome alum Ciar?n Hinds as Mance Rayder in season three, Game of Thrones established that it has no problem getting talent from HBO?s long-deceased show about Rome?s transition from republic to empire.

Case in point: the series has cast Rome actress Indira Varma in season four. Varma will play Ellaria Sand on the show, the ?sexually adventurous paramour? of ?The Red Viper? Prince Oberyn Martell (to be played by Pedro Pascal).

In addition to her role as Niobe on Rome, Varma has had roles on FOX?s Human Target along with UK dramas Silk and Hunted.

Varma is the latest new addition to season 4 following new hires Pascal and Sherlock writer/actor Mark Gatiss. In the wake of the show?s highest-rated and most-Emmy-nominated season yet, Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss said they expect season 4 to be the show?s best.

?We got more action, which is obviously more time consuming,? says Benioff. ?It?s a brutal shooting season ahead. But if we can make it through, yeah, I think it?s going to surpass season three. The last 3 episodes, there?s so many scenes we?ve been waiting for so long to do. And it just gets more and more fun to write for these characters. After three years of doing it, we have that much more comfort to make everything uncomfortable for them. We?re very excited for it.?
